Family Friends Launch

It’s a family affair. Powered by Melbourne Music Week, Resident Advisor and Skylab, this summer two of Naarm’s most trusted party purveyors - WAT Artists & Crown Ruler, team up to launch Family Friends. We’re coming together like Voltron. A natural pairing of two ardent music collectives ready to fill the city with all the right frequencies. After another difficult year gone, find inspiration in our spirited community - flaunting the power of music and human connection.

Sunday December 5th We’re setting things off with an all-day open air bash as we take-over Boatbuilders Yard, South Wharf. Naarm’s back baby! Government approved, we’re running at full capacity and ready to get down. Smack bang on the Yarra with city-scape surrounds, shake your body from day into night as some of Australia’s finest come together for a heavyweight dance affair.

We’re flaunting a star-studded cast of favourites. Cult krautback discoteque Waxo Paradiso are coming with their ever mixed bag of bent melters. Complimenting the pairing, globetrotting selector Lauren Hansom returns from over state lines with her oddball dance-fused eclecticism. After an enormous year,  world conquering cinematic funk outfit, Surprise Chef will make their first post-lockdown performance leading into Sun Cycle. While DJ pgz and Claddy round out the mainstage with a dynamic blend of seductive club grooves. All will be powered by our community’s essential digi-platform Skylab, who will be live-streaming our event all day long. An open air space built correctly with d&b Audiotechnik production for full impact.

Meanwhile, switch frequencies and discover the Strange Tones room, a considered space of music esoterica powered by a pair of Klipschorn speakers from Careful Sounds’ collection. Holding it down will be Izabel (Lullabies For Insomniacs), Sophie McAlister, Hi-Care and Palazzo.

Find freedom and connect with like-minded music lovers. A genre-bending exploration through swinging rhythms, big backbeat and eclectic grooves. Bring in the summer with Family Friends and be reminded of what makes our hometown so special.

This event will take place on the lands of the Wurrundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge their Elders past and present, and pay their respect to all First Nations people. Always Was, Always Will Be.
