Surprise Chef's ‘Velodrome b/w Spring’s Theme’ 45 Launch Party @ Howler

Crown Ruler partner with College of Knowledge to present cinematic soul journeymen Surprise Chef with their latest 45 - 'Velodrome b/w Spring's Theme'.

The fam are celebrating their latest release on Big Crown Records with a full venue takeover of Howler, featuring a trusty palette of local legends and seasoned selectors. Keenly, on the bill are experimental electronic quartet Big Yawn (Research Records, breathtaking Chinese-Australian guzheng player Mindy Weng Wang 王萌 (Music In Exile) and Australia’s undisputed queen of rare soul Miss Goldie (Boss Action PBS106.7fm). If that wasn't enough - dynamic selectors of only the baddest tunes Shio (Eternal Rhythm PBS106.7FM) and Lloyd Briggs (Deeep Space PBS106.7FM) will be going back to back all night in the beer garden.

Like all of their tunes, expect in Surprise Chef's 'Velodrome b/w Spring's Theme' a hotpot of 70s film scores, the funkier sides of jazz and samples that form the foundation of hip hop merged into one distinct soundscape, evoking moods built from vivid arrangements of time and space. They push the boundaries of instrumental soul and funk with their own approach honed by countless hours in the studio, studying the masters, and perhaps most importantly, the ‘tyranny of distance’ that dictates a unique perspective to their music.

It is also their last show before they venture overseas to tour Europe and the USA, so come catch them while you can.
